Help support a ladder on hard ground by standing it on a board. Having glued and screwed a length of timber approximately 75 mm 3in by 50mm 2in to its front edge to act as a stop. Drive three 150 mm/6 in nails through the board along its back edge to prevent the board from slipping. When the ladder is being used on dry concrete or paving-stone surfaces in dry weather, remove the nails and glue a square of rubber to the underside of the board.
