A noisy lavatory cistern can lie a nuisance – especially at night. One way of silencing it is to fit a length of plastic or rubber pipe from the ball valve to within 6 mm of the bottom of the cistern. As the cistern refills, the water will enter below the surface of the water instead of pouring down on to it.
With a high-level cistern, the sound of water running down the Hush pipe can also be reduced by fitting felt or rubber pads between the pipe and the wall. Secure the pads in position with tape.
