Labelling the fuses in a fuse box will save considerable time in identifying a fuse that has failed. The simplest way to do this is to turn on all the lights and power points in the house. Then switch off the electricity, remove a fuse. And then switch the electricity back on. Note which lights are out of action when a fuse has been removed and check individual points by plugging in table lights. Label each fuse accordingly. Replace the fuse and repeat the procedure with another fuse.
Alternatively, draw a diagram of the fuse circuits, noting which circuit each fuse controls. Stick the diagram on the inside cover of the fuse box, or on a wall nearby.
In addition, keep a torch and a selection of fuse wire handy by the box.
