To allow a tamping beam to be used lengthways to level a concrete path being laid alongside a wall, lay the concrete in alternate bays. Start by laying a framework the full length of the path, placing dividing boards between each section and inserting a 19 mm strip of asphalt-impregnated fibreboard against the wall. This forms an expansion joint.
After laying the first set of bays, leave the concrete to harden for at least forty-eight hours. Then remove the dividing boards and fil1 in the other bays. Remove the rest of the framework when the entire path has set.
