A simple method of joining aluminium tubing is to cut a scrap 50 mm 2 in long section of tube with the same diameter as the tubes to be joined. Saw a slit down this section, squeeze it together with a pair of grips and insert it inside the two lengths of tube. Then push the tubes together over the join. The section will spring-open sufficiently to hold the tubes in place – though the joint can be made more permanent by fitting it with self-tapping screws to secure the section in place.
