Pebble-dash a wall by first raking out the pointing between the bricks to a depth of about 19 mm. This provides a key for the mortar. Then wet the wall thoroughly to prevent the mortar mix from drying out too quickly. Apply a mix of one part of cement, half a part of lime and three parts of sand to a depth of about 12 mm. While the mortar is still wet, scatter fine pebbles over the surface. Work in small areas, or the mortar will start to harden and the pebbles will fall off.
