Use a masonry cutting disc attached to a power drill to cut thick paving slabs. Scratch the cutting line with a nail and cut along its full length through half the thickness of the slab. Then place the slab over a block of wood, making sure that it runs the full length of the cut. Apply heavy and equal pressure to both sides of the cut to snap the slab. Alternatively, place the half-cut slab upside down on two blocks either side of the cut and split it with a bolster.
