Before laying sheet vinyl flooring on a solid ground floor, make sure that the floor on which the vinyl is being laid is level and dry and that the airbricks around the side of the house are not blocked. Even after taking this precaution, it is important to check for rising-damp after laying the vinyl. This is because vinyl is impervious to damp and it could take as long as a year – when skirting boards become affected – before it becomes clear that damp is building up. Lift a section of the vinyl after about a month to check whether it is damp on the underside.
